Over these last few weeks, we’ve watched the world connect through conversation, storytelling, and thoughtful discussion. During this time, we felt it was our place to listen and prioritize the voices of the Black community. Internally, we began attending webinars, reading articles, sharing the perspectives of Black leaders and activists, and reflecting on our own policies and practices, knowing that our agency must be an active part of the change moving forward.
It’s important for us to address the issue with substance rather than speed. As an agency who has always valued ‘walking the walk’, it was clear that an actionable plan is needed to ensure we celebrate, amplify, and seamlessly integrate Black voices and diversity in all that we do.
That’s why, starting today, we’re committing to doing the work. To start, from now until the end of the year we will be spotlighting a Canadian non-profit that gives back to Black, Indigenous, and other systematically disadvantaged communities. Besides a monetary donation, we will use our platform to share their message in hopes to inspire others to do the same.
We also have committed to the following actions:
Being vocally anti-racist in our internal and external communication, strategic planning, and partnerships
Including more Black models, influencers and voices in content creation
Prioritizing monthly meetings that keep us accountable to these actions with our bi-coastal team to discuss our action plan and ways we can best support the Black community
Implementing explicit anti-racism policies that outline zero tolerance towards any hateful, racist, and discriminatory words or actions. Any behaviour demonstrated by our staff, partners, contractors, or clients of this nature will result in immediate termination
Supporting locally Black-owned businesses with our office purchasing decisions and campaign partnerships
